Breaking the Blur: How Sampushti Helped Priya Regain Her Vision
Priya, a young adolescent from Balamau district, Hardoi, struggled with persistent vision problems. She experienced double vision, making everyday tasks difficult and affecting her studies. Despite sharing her concerns with her mother, the issue was initially dismissed, assumed to be temporary. However, as time passed, her condition worsened—she found it hard to focus in class and even misjudged objects while walking, narrowly avoiding accidents on multiple occasions.

On November 12, 2024, a routine anemia screening camp was conducted at SBS Inter College under the Sampushti project by Development Consortium (DC) in collaboration with HCL Foundation. During the check-up, Prasya’s hemoglobin level was found to be 11.3 g/dL, lower than the recommended range of 12-16 g/dL for adolescent girls. Further medical evaluation linked her vision issues to iron deficiency anemia.

To address her condition, she was advised to increase iron-rich foods in her diet, including moringa and Indian gooseberry (amla). Additionally, DC provided her with eyeglasses to support her vision.

Two months later, a follow-up test showed improved hemoglobin levels, and Prasya experienced a significant reduction in her vision issues.
Her mother, Devi, a homemaker, shared her relief:"My daughter had been struggling with double vision, but I never thought it could be due to anemia. After the camp, we followed the doctor’s advice, and now her eyesight has improved. She can focus better on her studies and daily activities."

With her health restored, Priya is now more confident in her daily life. Her story highlights how Sampushti is making a difference in adolescent well-being, ensuring that health concerns do not become barriers to a brighter future.
