Breaking Barriers to Health: How Sampushti Helped Mehek Find Relief from Severe Pain

Mehek, a 13-year-old high school student from JVB Balamau, Hardoi, comes from a modest background. Her father, a street vendor, works hard to support the family, while her mother manages household responsibilities. Despite their struggles, Mehek was determined to continue her education. However, frequent stomach pain, dizziness, and extreme anxiety made everyday life difficult.

During her menstrual cycle, her condition became unbearable—even getting out of bed was a challenge. Her mother, assuming it was normal period pain, dismissed her discomfort. But as time passed, Mehek’s health worsened.

On October 14, 2024, a Sampushti-led anemia screening camp was held at her school, where her hemoglobin level was found to be 11.5 g/dL—lower than the normal range of 12-16 g/dL for adolescent girls. She was prescribed iron supplements to improve her condition. However, recognizing the severity of her symptoms, the Sampushti team went a step further—they visited Mehek’s home and convinced her parents to seek further medical consultation.

After a gynecological examination, doctors diagnosed uterine fibroids and endometriosis, the root causes of her severe pain. With proper medical treatment, a balanced diet, and ongoing support from Sampushti, Mehek’s health gradually improved.

Today, she is healthier, stronger, and able to focus on her studies without constant pain and discomfort. Mehek’s journey is a testament to how Sampushti is not only addressing anemia but also advocating for adolescent health—ensuring that young girls get the medical attention they need to thrive.
